Technological Advancements For Leaders Who Love Adventures

Traveling has sometimes been quoted as a luxury rather than a necessity. But for leaders in different industries, may it be if they are entrepreneurs young and old, politicians, head of nonprofit organizations, etc., leaders need to recharge and some adventures too. Seeking adventure and spending time away from the keyboard inspires and motivates to become better leaders. And for tech-savvy individuals, apps never fail to make traveling to unchartered territories comfortable and as adventurous as possible.
Below are mobile apps that will help entrepreneurs keep track of their business while away, and at the same time enjoy the great outdoors.
1. Google TranslateFirst time traveling to China, Thailand, or Costa Rica? How exciting. But wait, do you even know how to ask for directions, say “hi” or “thank you” in their native tongue? This is where Google Translate comes in. Google Translate is a free app designed translate over 100 languages. Although it’s not 100% accurate, it will help you get on with simple commands or requests.
2. First Aid by Red CrossImagine you’re in the middle of nowhere and suddenly you fell ill. Let say you got an upset stomach for eating exotic foods, or you didn’t realize you’re allergic to pollen. If you’re in the city, it’s easy to see a doctor and buy the prescribed meds. But if you’re in the wilderness, that’s not going to happen. This app by Red Cross is tailored to provide expert information during emergency situations like earthquakes, hurricanes, and first aid treatments.  The app is equipped with diagrams, videos, and steps that are easy to understand.
3. Weather UndergroundRoad Trips with fellow motorcycle enthusiasts is another fun way to travel. Especially if you’re traveling with the latest Harley electric motorcycle that just came out. The only thing that would stop you from doing it is bad weather. Weather Underground predicts it for you. This app is great in providing real-time weather reports and radar imaging from where you’re at. The best part is its first light/last light feature. Unlike other apps, Weather Underground tells you exactly when the sun rises and sets.
4. SlackSlack is an instant messaging app which stands for Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge. It allows easy and quick communications between you and your team in terms of channels, groups, and private messages. Another best thing about Slack is that you can integrate this with third-party services like Dropbox, Trello, and Zendesk. Which is why you can still get in touch with your team and keep the business going while you’re away.
5. SkywikiAre you enthralled with celestial bodies as a kid? Let your inner astronomer come alive with Skywiki. Skywiki is a stunning, easy to use app which allows you to stargaze while traveling (or camping). Some of its features include the Calendar page (provides information of past and future events) and the Periscope page (shows information about astronomical events and Solar System objects). Skywiki also has a 2D skymap feature and an Images page which displays Astronomy Picture of the day, Hubble picture of the day, the Lunar image of the day, and NASA Image of the day.

How To Positively Embrace Technology To Fuel Your Success

Technology is constantly evolving as a means to increase our productivity, efficiency, and communication. Yet despite the fact that we can now get more work down in less time, communicate simultaneously with multiple colleagues, and even work remotely (in some cases), we aren’t becoming any happier. In most cases, it comes down to our largely negative and unhealthy relationship with technology. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. When used mindfully, technology has the potential to enhance, rather than diminish, human happiness. As technology evolves further and continues to affect our daily lives, it’s more important than ever to learn how to find a balance between our gadgets, productivity, and wellbeing, in order to achieve greater happiness. Here are five strategies that successful individuals can use to find greater happiness in an age overrun by technology: Strategy #1: Stay Grounded With Intention  Although our already minuscule attention spans may ...

New technology will enable computers to run 100x faster

Until now, the major challenges that stood in the way of creating the terahertz microchip were overheating and scalability. However, following three years of extensive research, Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU) physicist Uriel Levy and his team have shown proof of concept using flash memory technology. “This discovery could help fill the ‘THz gap’ and create new and more powerful wireless devices that could transmit data at significantly higher speeds than currently possible,” said Levy, head of HU’s Nano-Opto Group. “In the world of high-tech advances, this is game-changing technology,” he added. In a paper published in the journal  Laser and Photonics Review , Levy and HU emeritus professor Joseph Shappir showed proof of concept for an optic technology that integrates the speed of optic communications with the reliability and manufacturing scalability of electronics. Optic communications includes all technologies that use light to carry information through fiber-optic cab...

Getting an innovative technology to market

The emergence of new technologies, while holding great promise for society, often threatens the viability of established companies. There are plenty of well-known examples of this, such as the Eastman Kodak Co. and Polaroid Corp. and the advent of digital photography. In many of these cases, the core challenge for established companies stems not from a lack of recognition of or investments in emerging technologies. Instead, it stems from the challenge of commercializing an emerging technology whose economic attractiveness with respect to the company’s existing business model is not at all obvious in the near term. Today, managers in many prominent sectors, including autos, financial services, energy, and health care, face the challenge of pursuing emerging technologies that carry a high degree of uncertainty with regard to their economic viability and their companies’ competitive position. However, what is sometimes lacking is an understanding, guided by systematic empirical evid...
